Welcome from Katharyn and Ben

You’ve read the descriptive stuff, now here’s a little about the story behind Brooklands Farm Cottages!

I am Katharyn, a local girl, who flew the nest at 18 and met Ben from Up North back in 2007 in New Zealand, whilst we were both doing the travelling thing. We married in 2014 on a little Greek island. Just months later, we continued the adventuring and our love of travelling, and moved to Melbourne, Australia, where we lived for nearly six years. Our dream began there, exploring in our home-made converted campervan, we loved staying away for weekends and often thought, we’d love to do this one day!

One baby boy later, and another on the way, we moved back to Devon just weeks before the first lockdown, we couldn’t have timed it better if we tried! And so began our lockdown searching for our own business; we dreamt of owning a camping or caravan park and to create cottages for people to enjoy holidays as much as we do. As a midwife and a recruiter, we were brand new to this!

Discovering and buying Brooklands Farm was more than a dream come true. With a constant calming whistle of bird song, the regular clip clopping of horses walking by, the distinct fleeting visiting smell of local manure spreading from surrounding farms, Brooklands Farm offers constant reminders of being nestled away somewhere quiet, peaceful and magical. We quickly got started on renovating the cottages – a challenging task given we weren’t allowed to leave the house! But with focus, enthusiasm, family support (thanks Dad!), and even two tiny boys at our ankles, we finally got to open the doors, to what you see today.
